IBM Db2 & Db2 on Cloud End of Continuing Support for Db2 7.2 - 9.5 Announcement Oct 2021 | |||
On October 1, 2021, IBM announced changes to the Db2 Continuing Support program. For versions 9.5 and earlier, Continuing Support will not be provided after September 30th, 2022. The technical note can be found: https://www.ibm.com/support/ We decided to make this change because most vendors are no longer supporting the hardware, OS or applications being used with these older Db2 versions, which presents technical and non-technical risks outside of the core database engine. What is changing on September 30, 2022: -- Support tickets, even for non-defect issues, for Db2 versions 9.5, 9.1, 8.2, 8.1 and 7.2 will no longer be accepted by IBM support. -- Online knowledge bases for these versions may not be maintained or available. What is NOT changing on September 30, 2022: -- You retain the right to run the unsupported versions of Db2 in your environment. -- Nothing is changing with respect to your entitlement and you will not be forced to upgrade. -- No changes are being made to regular or extended support programs. We value your loyalty to Db2 and want to help you transition to supported versions. A variety of options are available to help upgrade and modernize your Db2 estate. These include free modernization workshops as well as services to assess, plan, or execute a version upgrade, or to fully modernize to a container-based infrastructure. Your options moving forward: 1. Containerization Containerize Db2 directly on RedHat OpenShift or on Cloud Pak for Data and upgrade to the latest Db2 version in the process. 2. Upgrade standalone Upgrade to the latest Db2 version to access better performance, easier administration, better security, as well as newer features such as graph and machine learning. 3. SaaS Move to Db2 on Cloud, our fully managed SaaS solution for transactional and analytical workloads and the default cloud database for Cloud Pak for Data as a service.
